Understanding animal-microbe interactions as a target to promote health and cure modern diseases

The mechanisms of host-microbe interactions remain elusive but hold the key to understand animal health and susceptibility to disease. I hypothesize that external factors (e.g. stress) interfere in the animal-microbe communications and currencies, destabilize the symbiosis, and thus, yield disease. This proposal aims at unravel fundamental principles that govern health using early-diverging animals as case study.
